I wrote in January about how to bring romance back to your marriage, and if you’ve read that, maybe you already have Valentine idea’s planned. I know that this year, given Valentine’s is on a Wednesday, we planned to celebrate Valentine’s on the weekend instead. I personally believe every day you should be showing love for your partner, and that Valentine’s is a day where you can go that extra mile. So how do you go that extra mile to show your partner how you feel?
There are a couple different suggestions and things I would do or get for my husband to express my love and appreciation. The first thing to expressing my feelings is knowing my husband and what speaks to him. Some strategies to having an amazing Valentine’s day (or just a day of romance in general) are:
-
Know your partners love language!
- If you haven’t heard of Gary Chapman, then it’s time to start reading The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts
. I have this book and read it a couple years ago, but it was incredibly helpful for me to understand what I love and what my partner loves. I also recommend checking yearly if you languages have changed since we are constantly changing and growing as individuals.
- The five love languages: Quality Time, Acts of Service, Words of Affirmation, Physical Touch, and Gifts. If you want to take the quiz quickly to find out your love language click here.

Know what your partner loves
- For me, I’ve mentioned my husband loves coffee and cars. I found this cute gift on Amazon, Luxury Cotton “Bring Me Coffee” Funny Socks – Perfect Valentine’s Day Gift for Him or Her, Hilarious Novelty or Gag Gift Idea for Wife or Husband – Best White Elephant Present For Coffee Lover
that I know my husband would love!
- Another gift I know lots of men like is a watch. My husband personally loves Skeleton watches, so if I saved up enough money and got my husband a skeleton watch, I know that would mean a lot to him (he still wears the other two skeleton watches I got him over a year ago!)

Coupons/ Love Books
- I have to say that this is a very simple and romantic gift. My husband has actually handmade some coupons for me in the past, and I’ve bought little love books and they have been the sweetest little gifts! This Knock Knock Vouchers for Lovers (Pack of 2)
is perfect, so when you give the voucher, you also get one as well. One of my favorites is this Knock Knock What I Love About You Fill in the Love Journal with Gift Box
. I think those books are so sweet when you give them or get them, it shows the person all the reasons you love them and appreciate them.

Bonding
- Getting to know your partner in a deeper way always increases your emotional bond! This book Questions for Couples: 469 Thought-Provoking Conversation Starters for Connecting, Building Trust, and Rekindling Intimacy
can really be a great activity to do together to strengthen your love and intimacy.
- Another way to bond is by doing an activity you both enjoy, or indulging in a hobby with your partner that they like. I know my husband usually wants me to hang around him and watch him while he works on his car and wants to teach me what he is doing. I may not be interested in cars, but I can say I’ve learned a lot through hanging out with him some days he has worked on the car, and it put a smile on my husbands face to have me there with him.

An Old Fashioned Love Letter
- Love letters, in my opinion, still are one of the most romantic things you can do. Handwriting a letter, professing your love and affection, is sentimental, romantic, and something they will treasure and read over and over again.
I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!
XOXO Savvy

Such great ideas! I agree about the Love Languages, it helps so much knowing my husband’s, and vise versa.
Glad you liked them, and yes Love Languages are so important when knowing how to show the affection so your partner see’s it.
great write-up. I love the fact you mentioned that it’s important to know what your partner loves, My husband love shoes and watches.
I think the simple act of putting thought into a gift means so much. Knowing what they like and running with it, is so important. PLus, I love all your suggestions particularly the questions. I love that type of thing because there’s always something new to find out about your partner.
This is great. Thanks for the inspiration!!
