Do you find that you tend to get complacent in your long-term relationship? It is no secret that in order to maintain a healthy relationship both parties must make an effort. Sometimes it’s not enough to sit side by side-scrolling social media and on a Saturday night.  The good news is that it only takes small steps and pulling out the credit card to book that romantic weekend with couple’s massages doesn’t have to be involved.

Set Some Goals

It is very beneficial if you know what your partner wants out of life and what you two plans to achieve together as a couple. Taking time to regularly talk about these things can create growth in your relationship.

You should be talking about these things very often and if you are on a crunch for time don’t be afraid to schedule weekly check-ins with each other that way you know that you are in tune with the way things are going with your spouse and they understand you as well.

Round the World Date Night

This one might sound expensive however it is far from it. Exotic travel may be a thing of past with the little ones running around, but you can recreate it at home. Each month you can “visit” a different country after the kids go to bed.

It felt a bit silly at first, but after a few countries, we really got into it. We now spend the weeks before it planning outfits, decoration and most importantly the meal.

Whip Up Some New Dishes Together

Do you even get stuck in a rut of what food you cook or order in? Well, why not learn to cook some yummy dishes together? How about some pizza, it will be delicious and may save you on takeaway bills in the future.

So how do you get started? Have your homemade pizza dough ready – spread it out on a baking pan that has been properly floured – brush the pizza dough with some extra virgin olive oil and sprinkle on your smoked veggies as well as a moderate amount of your favorite low-fat cheese. (If you’re feeling a little fancy, feel free to mix some black pepper, garlic powder and some of your favorite spices in with your veggies beforehand!)

To really add some flavor to your pizza, whip up the smoked veggies. Try using eggplant or mushroom as they hold a lot of flavor and texture. Putting the veggies in a natural gas smoker will ensure you don’t have to load up on cheese or fatty meats to add flavor.

Go On, Head Out For a Stroll Together

Get out with your partner and clear your mind on a long walk. The kids can most definitely tag along especially small kids that are content and will fall asleep in the stroller. Try to get out together a few times a week to voice your concerns or let them know about your little wins

Indulge in a Massage… Course

If really want to up your game why not gift a course to get other. This would be the present that keeps giving. Just imagine you could get professional massages whenever you please (well you might have to ask nicely).

Explore Your Local

Try leaving your phone at home and head out for a walk around your area. You will be surprised what you see when you’re not trying to take the perfect picture for Instagram. Visit your local park and explore the streams and lakes (if you’re lucky enough to have some).

If you have a local library, head over and pick out some books together. They might even have some travel books that will inspire you to put away a little bit of extra cash away a week. Your treat afterward can be splurging on ice cream or a coffee from the new café that just opened up around the corner.

As parents, we tend to forget that we are more than just moms and dads. You are also somebody’s husband or wife and with that come’s a responsibility to maintain a strong relationship. Hopefully, a few of these ideas will help you to feel connected without whipping out the credit card!
